Back in March 2011, I joined the Choir Poco-a-Poco at the Calgary Japanese Community Association. The rehearsals are every two weeks and are 99% Japanese language. I’ve been learning new songs there in a choir setting – and improving my understanding of the Japanese language. I’ve also been a volunteer for their new Matsuri event in Calgary. It’s been a great experience so far that allowed me to be part of a group, and invited as a singer for some of their events for the senior community.
Singing “Hatsukoi” from Hanako Oku at the Karaoke Party of the Japanese Senior Community Group.
Singing “Sayounara Arigatou” from Rimi Natsukawa at the Karaoke Party of the Japanese Senior Community Group.
Singing “Fuyu no Uta” from KIRORO at the Christmas Party of the Japanese Senior Community Group (I had a very bad cold that day…).
Singing “Kaeritakunatta yo” from Ikimono Gakari at the Christmas Party of the Japanese Senior Community Group (I had a very bad cold that day…) The video is hosted on VIMEO as SONY do not allow Ikimono Gakara video on Youtube…
Our group was invited to perform at the Christmas Party of the Calgary Japanese Gospel Church. We prepared 4 songs that would be played with… bells ! That was extremely challenging for me as I was not used to read music sheets and I get easily confused when I hear so many other bells around me. But I think overall we did a pretty good job and our audience really enjoyed it !
